Olympic Marathon Trials Qualifier, Youth Running Coach
Dawn ran competitively in high school and college, but stopped running once she graduated to pursue her passion for teaching. After 10 years of teaching, she reignited that competitive desire and turned pro in 2011 for Nike. Since then, Dawn has competed in the 2012 Olympic Trials in the 1500m and 2016 Olympic Trials Marathon. She set a new marathon PR at the 2018 Berlin Marathon (2:34:56). Her love of teaching children and running gave her the idea to start SpeedKIDZ, a youth program for children ages 4-18 years old that focuses on running skills and a commitment to community, team and family.
When I moved up to the marathon, I tried every single gel out there and I went into every marathon knowing I was going to have GI issues – it was just a matter of when. It was a terrible feeling. I was introduced to UCAN by my coach, Dathan Ritzenhein, and went into my next training block and marathon without getting sick! UCAN helped make the marathon distance so much fun for me and was a HUGE factor in me going from a 2:49 marathoner down to a 2:35 Olympic Trials A Standard Qualifier!
